This summer the Tees Sport Summer School will be placing special emphasis on improving the service plus four of the most important strokes. If you improve your strokes you game will be automatically better.
Our coaching team, including Matt Syed, Ryan Jenkins, Mike Marsden, Jason Sugrue and course director Alan Ransone, will be pleased to help you improve your game and win more matches next season.


Alan Ransome   Matt Syed
Course director and Managing Director of Tees Sport. One of Britain’s most experienced coaches. E.T.T.A Senior coach, International player captain and manger of the famous Ormesby Club – European Champions and eleven times English Champions.   England International and World ranked player. 4 times English and 3 times Commonwealth Champion. Represented Great Britain in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Good communicator – specialist television commentator for BBC, Eurosport and Sky.


  Ryan Jenkins


  Welsh No 1 National Champion and Commonwealth winner. Former British Champion now becoming heavily involved in elite coaching. Ryan has a vast knowledge of the game.

Mike Marsden    
Former England Junior and school boy international. England top 20 player. Ormesby Premier British League player and one the Ormesby coaches. Table Tennis equipment expert Courses administrator and Tees Sport Marketing Manager.      

Durham City
An attractive interesting city located in the heart of the historic Kingdom of Northumbria. Durham is close to the A1(M) motorway and is on the main railway line between Kings Cross and Newcastle.
Van Mildert College
One of Durham’s most attractive and modern college complexes. Situated just one mile south of the city centre and one mile for the Graham Sports Centre. Ample car parking facilities and Licensed Bar.
Graham Sports Centre at Maiden Castle
Is located on the outskirts of Durham, in the beautiful grounds surrounded by rolling hills and woodlands. There is ample space in the well-lit sports hall for up to 24 Butterfly ITTF approved world class tables, plus a warm-up section, balcony for spectators, showers and canteen,
Accommodation
Tees Sport Summer School guests are accommodated in the new modern college residences. The single or twin rooms are attractively furnished and all have en-suite facilities. Tee and Coffee making facilities are provided.
Meals
The high quality meals are served in the dining hall of the college and include full English breakfast, light lunch served at the sports centre and a three courses evening meal. Special diets can be catered for on request.
Demonstrations
Britain’s leading players provide demonstrations of the stokes and practices at the start of each session.
Coaching and Playing Standards
Participants receive an average of 5 hours play each day with equal attention from all coaches regardless of ability. The Tees Sport Summer School caters for all standards, from beginners to international players.
Tournaments
Team and individual tournaments play forms an important and enjoyable aspect of the program. Valuable equipment prizes are presented at the final night dinner.
Seminars
The evening seminars include talks by the experts coving the whole spectrum of table tennis. Participants have the opportunity to ask questions and watch international stars in action on video.
Video
Each player will be filmed on the Tees Sport video and have the opportunity to discuss their performance with a Tees Sport coach. For an additional charge to cover the cost of the DVD, players can also be provided with their own personal copy of their play on DVD.
Latest Techniques
The full breakdown of the latest techniques from the World and European Champions. The effect of the latest rule changes will be fully demonstrated and discussed on the course.
Physical Fitness
Each day there are optional Physical Fitness sessions on the course. Our experts will help you with your training program.
Student or Qualified Coaches
Coaches will find Tees Sport Summer School most useful as a refresher course.
Tees Sport Shop
The Tees Sport shop opens each day for the purchase of equipment and for technical advice.
Photographs
Keep a personal souvenir of you holiday. We can have your photograph taken with one of the coaches and provide a copy of the course group photo.
Family Plan
Parents of players are most welcome to join their youngsters in Durham either playing themselves or taking advantage of the opportunity for sightseeing in the historic North East, having accommodation and meals with their family or friends at the college. The balcony at Graham Sports Centre allows parents to sit and view the coaching.
General
Whilst course members are encouraged to have a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, it is expected that they will conduct themselves in a reasonable manor thoughtout and retire at a suitable time to ensure fitness for the following day’s activities.
Course Recognition
Tees Sport Summer School is organised in co-operation with Durham University, the Northumbria Tourist Board, Sport England (Northern Region) and the English Table Tennis Association.
Arrival
Please arrive at the Van Mildert College on the first day before 12 noon. Tees Sport staff will be happy to meet members arriving by bus or train in Durham. Accommodation will be provided for those wishing to arrive on the day before the course commences, cost on application.
Departure
Departure will be after breakfast on the last day of the course before 12 noon. Tees Sport staff will check train and bus times and provide transport to the station.
Over 1,500 players have benefited from coaching at the Tees Sport Summer School since 1977 when courses commenced. These include several players who has progressed to international level. Many of our participants have improved and now play in the British league whilst some have progressed from complete beginner level to become competent league players.

What the price includes
The costs include all accommodation, meals, full instruction, tournaments, social events, seminars, transportation within Durham and VAT @ 17.5%. Should the VAT rate alter, the cost will be adjusted accordingly. Prices are limited.




By Road from the South – Travel up the A1(M) just south of Darlington. Take this motorway to the Bowburn (61) interchange just south of Durham coming into Durham on the A177.
By Road from the North – Take the A1(M) from Newcastle though Gateshead, south of Durham leaving the motorway at the Bowburn (61) interchange just south of Durham coming into Durham on the A177.
By Rail – Durham City is on the main line from Kings Cross, between Darlington and Newcastle. There is a regular train service to Durham linking with all parts of the country.
By Coach – Durham is a main station for long distance Buses.
